SUO Services That Can Improve Your Experience at UBCO

When people think of the Students’ Union Okanagan (SUO), they often think of student governance, elections, and advocacy. While these are important parts of what we do, the SUO also offers a variety of services designed to support students throughout their time at UBC Okanagan.

Whether you’re looking for health and dental coverage, affordable transit, or food security support, there are resources available to help make student life a little easier.

Some of the services available to UBCO students include:

  • Health & Dental
  • U-PASS
  • Pantry

Health & Dental

Paying for healthcare can be expensive, which is why the SUO partners with StudentCare (now Alumo) to provide extended health and dental coverage for eligible UBC Okanagan students.

The plan is designed specifically for students and helps cover a range of health and dental services that may not be included under the Medical Services Plan (MSP) for BC residents or other basic healthcare programs.

Coverage begins September 1, 2026, and lasts until August 31, 2027 for students enrolled in both Winter Terms.

U-PASS

The Universal Bus Pass (U-PASS) is a mandatory program for UBC students who are members of the Students’ Union Okanagan of UBC and have been assessed the SUO fee.

Available from September through April, the U-PASS provides unlimited access to the Kelowna Regional Transit System at a significant discount, offering approximately four months of transit access for the price of one regular monthly pass.

Coverage for the 2026-27 academic year begins on September 1, 2026. To activate your U-PASS, download the UMO app or pick up a physical UMO card from the SUO Front Desk.

Pantry

The SUO Pantry is a food bank for currently enrolled UBCO undergraduate students experiencing food insecurity.

Students who submit a hamper request form can pick up their hampers on the following Wednesday and Thursday at the SUO Front Desk between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

To request a hamper, complete the Hamper Request Form.

These are just a few of the many services available through the SUO. In addition to programs like Health & Dental, the U-PASS, and the Pantry, students can also access advocacy support and a variety of SUO resource centres throughout the year.
