Student-at-Large Positions

Students-at-Large are volunteer positions within the SUO. They sit on committees to assist throwing events and to help facilitate gathering a more well-rounded understanding of student wants and needs.

The committees with Student-at-Large positions available are:

1. the Oversight Committee

• one Student-at-Large position available

• are responsible for providing a neutral student opinion on the operations and oversight of the Executive Committee while attending Oversight Committee meetings
• this committee is currently full

2. the Policy Committee

• at least one Student-at-Large position available – up to the discretion of the Vice-President Internal
• responsible for offering student perspective on the changes to internal SUO policies while attending Policy Committee meetings
• this committee is currently full

3. the Campus Life Committee

• three to five Student-at-Large positions available – up to the discretion of the Vice-President Campus Life
• responsible for assisting with Students’ Union events and providing input about campus community events while attending Campus Life Committee meetings

4. the Campaigns Committee

• up to three Student-at-Large positions available – up to the discretion of the Vice-President External
• responsible for assisting the Campaigns Committee in tabling and campaigning events, as well as attending Campaigns Committee meetings
• provides the student perspective on relevant causes the SUO should campaign for

5. the Graduate Student Committee

• at least one and up to nine Graduate Student-at-Large positions available – up to the discretion of the College of Graduate Studies Representative
• one position available per faculty on campus, to better understand the wants and needs of Graduate Students on the UBC-O campus
• responsible for attending Graduate Student Committee meetings, suggesting and throwing events, and continuing the policy changes necessary to increase the support that the SUO can provide to Graduate Students

6. the Building Steering Committee

• up to two Student-at-Large positions available – up to the discretion of the President
• responsible for attending Building Steering Committee meetings and providing student insight into the wants and needs of the Membership
