SUO COMMUNITY MEALS CAMPAIGN 2025
The SUO rebranded the Smart Meals 2.0 program to reflect the transition to serving students FREE Breakfast and Lunch, with a view to cultural infusion and community building. This rebranded program is known as the SUO COMMUNITY MEAL. Since its launch, the SUO Community Meals has served 4,000 FREE meals to UBCO students.
On September 25, the SUO Community Meals program made a strong debut on campus with the launch of its free breakfast and lunch initiative at the Picnic, located on the first floor of the UNC building. Every Wednesday, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., and Thursday, from 12 to 1:30 p.m., students, staff, and faculty gather to share a meal prepared with care.
On December 4, 2025, the SUO Community Meal served its last meal for the semester. Over 175 branded SUO containers were given to students as a token of appreciation for their participation and support, and also to reduce waste and promote environmentally friendly habits. On September 20th, 2024, we hosted TAKEOFF, an electrifying concert that brought together 2,000 students for an unforgettable night!
Featuring headliner NLE Choppa, the event was filled with energy, music, and incredible vibes, making it one of the most memorable nights of the year

GRADUATE STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION REFERENDUM PASSES AT UBC OKANAGAN
On October 10, 2025, graduate students at UBC Okanagan voted overwhelmingly in support of forming the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA), marking a significant milestone in student governance. The referendum concluded with 434 votes for YES and 23 votes for NO, demonstrating strong support for graduate student self-governance. This decision reflects years of advocacy and collaboration among graduate students who have worked tirelessly to achieve greater representation and autonomy.
The newly established GSA will operate as a democratically run, non-profit society led by graduate students, for graduate students. This change ensures that graduate student fees will now be managed directly by the GSA, allowing for more effective allocation of resources toward advocacy, community-building, and enhanced services. The GSA’s mission includes strengthening representation, expanding support systems, and creating opportunities for social and professional engagement.
